Increasing the Frequency of Light Rail Services
Light rail has been incredibly popular since services commenced in April 2019 with over 6.6 million trips taken in the first two years.
Not long after light rail services commenced, I heard from a lot of people that crowding on their commute was an issue.
In response, I moved a motion in the Legislative Assembly calling for more services.
From July 2020:
- The frequency of services was increased to every 5 minutes during the weekday morning peak.
- The weekday afternoon peak period, during which the light rail runs every 6 minutes, was extended to 7pm northbound and 6.30pm southbound.
- Services on Sundays and public holidays commenced from 7am rather than 8am.
These changes meant that an additional 155 light rail services now run each week.
This increase in services has enabled light rail to become more accessible and comfortable for Canberrans to travel around the city.
Stage 2 Light Rail to Woden
Stage 2 light rail will connect Civic to Woden, through the Parliamentary Triangle.
This expansion will give Gungahlin residents an easy way to travel from Gungahlin Town Centre to Woden Town Centre!

Expanding E-Scooters to Gungahlin
E-scooters have been a huge hit within the current pilot zones in central Canberra and Belconnen. They are a fun, accessible and environmentally friendly transport option that supports the use of our broader public transport network.
Last year an independent review of the scheme found that 80% of Gungahlin residents wanted to see the e-scooter share scheme expanded to cover their local area.
In response, I moved a motion in the Legislative Assembly calling on the ACT Government to investigate expanding the e-scooter scheme to Mitchell and Gungahlin.
The ACT Government is currently working with shared e-scooter providers to expand the scheme in the second half of 2022.
