Statement - ACT Labor to deliver practical and progressive commitments for Canberra’s future
Ahead of the 2024 Territory election, ACT Labor will outline a comprehensive commitment platform that will be fully costed and publicly available.
It will outline our plan to maintain a world-class public health system by new hospitals and hiring more doctors and nurses to deliver the right care at the right time.
It will include a comprehensive plan to deliver more housing for Canberrans, where they want to live.
It will include investments to make every region of Canberra a better place to live, and it will include more support for vulnerable Canberrans.
Our campaign team will include spokespeople from the ACT Labor team in the Assembly to ensure coverage of all policy areas and portfolios.
As ACT Labor spokesperson for Building Quality & Construction, Michael Pettersson MLA will focus on developing Labor’s plan to support our housing and infrastructure agenda through effective building policy.
“At the last election, ACT Labor committed to getting tough on dodgy developers who do the wrong thing,” Mr Pettersson said.
“The introduction of the ACT’s property developer licencing scheme that Labor took to the election is welcomed, and I’ll be making sure the scheme delivers for future homebuyers, renters and construction workers.”
Suzanne Orr MLA will be ACT Labor’s spokesperson for Community Services, Seniors and Veterans and will be working closely with the ACT’s community sector to input into Labor’s election platform.
“When cost-of-living pressures increase, our community service organisations are there to support Canberrans doing it tough,” Ms Orr said.
“They play such an important role in our community, and I will be working hard to ensure that they contribute to ACT Labor’s policy development in the lead up to the election.”
ACT Labor’s Legal spokesperson Dr Marisa Paterson MLA will be tasked with ensuring that the party’s policy commitments include reforms to strengthen and modernise the Territory’s justice system.
“I’ve been pushing for justice reform in the ACT to address the concerns that many Canberrans talk to me about – in particular our justice response to sexual violence and dangerous driving,” Dr Paterson said.
“ACT Labor will put forward a strong plan to respond to the needs of the Canberra community through our criminal justice system.”
